Anything Can Happen Friday | Let's Talk | Exam Stress

Hi Everyone,

As exam season is very much upon us, I thought I'd dedicate a blog post to all those that are starting their exams. Now, when I went through my exams it was probably one of the worst experiences of my life! I hated every minute of it! I ended up getting extremely stressed, that my health was partially at risk, I began having panic attacks, non-epileptic seizures and what I like to call stress headache's. Not only was the thought of exams stressing me out but, I had my own personal problems to deal with on top of that.

Although, in a few ways I was quite lucky. I was fortunate enough to have my own room in my exams, so instead of going into a hall with all my peers, I had my own separate room with two invigilators. This meant that if I was going to pass out or have a panic attack, then I wouldn't disturb anyone and would be able to get any additional help I needed. It also meant that I could start and finish exams a bit earlier (not too early though), just that I wouldn't have to sit there feeling anxious waiting for everyone to stop writing.

My experiences of going through exams was tough and I know that some of you out there might also be finding this time of year stressful but, there are people out there that can help. If you are experiencing any difficulties then talk to someone and don't forget you teachers are there to help you with your exams, so if you feel like you're not getting enough help then, speak up.

There are also some great forums online you can check out.

BBC Radio 1 have a great advice page on the subject and is well worth the read, I believe that they're also dedicating their show 'The Surgery' to this topic, so if you get the chance tune into that every Wednesday from 9pm - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/1HsY1X8ySjKBMVXPVCbP4qH/exam-stress

Childline is brilliant when it comes to exam stress, or if your just feeling a little anxious, they're there to listen and help - https://www.childline.org.uk/Explore/SchoolCollege/Pages/exam-stress.aspx

The Mind services are also excellent, you can contact them through their website or locally through there centres - http://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/tips-for-everyday-living/stress-a-guide-to-managing-it/#.VVXujCBFBdg

I hope all of your exams go really well and I wish you all the luck in the world! Also, if any of you have any questions on the subject feel free to contact me and I'll try my best to answer them.

Lots of Love, Hugs and Kisses,
