Style Saturday | My McQueen, My Inspiration

Hello Beauties,

This will be the last in my mini-McQueen series *sad face* but, don't worry I'm sure I'll be back with more McQueen related blog posts in the near future! Today, I'm going to be talking about why I've done this series and to top it off, why is Lee Alexander McQueen my inspiration?

This is my sketch book.. This is something I've never shared on the internet before! I started this sketch book when I was 15, it's my everything and it wouldn't have been without Alexander McQueen inspiring me to want to be a fashion designer.

His work inspired me soo much that I even created my whole textiles coursework around him, I got an A, after months of torture and ripping up and re-doing pages, there were several times I just wanted to through my folder away and start again but, now looking back I'm so proud and happy of what I had created, even if it was like 3 years ago!

My 'A' worthy dress!!

My life plan aged 15, was to leave school study textiles and fashion journalism at college and then go onto university the same one McQueen went to, St Martins and I thought that magically overnight I'll get picked up by some fancy design company and become a fashion designer well, that obviously hasn't happened but, one thing that McQueen has taught me is, that if you have the PASSION, the DRIVE and the TALENT, then you CAN achieve anything you possibly want to do. Look at Lee, he had all of those things, even though he didn't do things the 'traditional way', he got to where he wanted to be in the end. That's why I wanted to do these blog posts, not only to remind myself of the lessons McQueen has taught me but, to also share them with you as well. A few of you may have never even heard of this fashion designer before I started this mini-series but, I hope you can take something from this even if it's just knowing his name, his legacy, his inspirations, or where his company is at now. I believe we can all learn something from what he has lived by himself. There is one quote by Lee that I particularly like and that's; "I think there is beauty in everything. What 'normal' people would perceive as ugly, I can usually see something of beauty in it"  I think this quote might be referring to his story, take his first catwalk show 'Highland Rape', people hated it, the press tore him and his show to shreds but, some saw the beauty, particularly Issie, the lady that discovered him. She saw the beauty, the passion, the drive and the talent, in this quote he mirror's what Issie did for him, spreading positivity and creating his own mantra. We should all be able to learn something from this quote and his story.

Thank you all for reading! I really hope you enjoyed this series! To catch up on blog posts click here for 'A Brief History' of Alexander McQueen, click here for part 2 'Lee McQueen and Issie Blow' and finally click here for my last post 'McQueen and Burton'.
